Security

BARREL LOCKS ON THE DOORS:
Inexpensive pad locks are easily picked and normal pad locks are easy to cut with bolt cutters. Barrel locks recess into the door, leaving nothing to cut, and the cylinder keys used with them are almost impossible to pick.

INDIVIDUAL DOOR ALARMS:
Door alarms not only provide backup protection to locks, they allow the self storage facility to track the times and dates your space was accessed. This can be very beneficial to businesses and individuals who have authorised more than one person to access this space.

GATE ACCESS CONTROLS:
Key pad activated entrance gates keep non-authorised people out while allowing tenants easy access to their spaces while recording the times and dates of entry.

ONSITE MANAGERS:
Managers live on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

INTERNAL - EXTERNAL CONCRETE WALLS:
All units have internal concrete walls for extra protection between each unit. Enabling clients to stack more easily.

Handy Tips

Your rental costs will be determined by the size of your unit...as most people over estimate the size of the space they need. Save money on self storage! Let Gold Star Self Storage's trained consultants help you select the right space for you.
HELPFUL HINTS:
Remember to pack your goods efficiently.... a small well-packed storage space costs less than a larger unit in which the contents are poorly arranged. Make a list of the packing accessories you'll need. Most of these packing aids can be purchased at our facility at a competitive rate.  Ask our trained consultants about our ongoing specials on packaging materials. Do not place contents directly on the floor-place a pallet blanket or strips of wood underneath boxes to allow for circulation. For easy access: place frequently used items near the door, and leave a walkway to the rear of the storage facility. Label all boxes and make a reference list to ensure easy access.

Residential Storage Tips

APPLIANCES:
Refrigerators or freezers should be completely dry and stored with their doors slightly ajar. Cartons can be stacked on top of stoves, refrigerators, and freezers. Cooking equipment should be cleaned before storing.

BEDDING, CLOTHING, CURTAINS, DRAPES AND LINENS:
Clothing, curtains and drapes should be stored on hangers. If hanging facilities are not available, such items should be carefully folded and stored in dresser drawers or plastic containers along with bedding and linen.

BICYCLES AND OTHER METAL ITEMS:
Wipe metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil. This will help to retard rusting.

FURNITURE:
Place a pallet or blanket on the floor and stand sofas and mattresses on end. Disassemble beds and tables. Pack dresser drawers with linens or small delicate items. Keep upholstery off the floor. DO NOT COVER WOODEN OR LEATHER ITEMS WITH PLASTIC.
LAMPS:
Wrap large lamp bases and smaller lamps and place them in boxes. Pack delicate lampshades separately. Do not use newsprint to wrap lampshades or other goods which can be damaged by ink stains. Do not store heavy items on top of boxes containing lamps or lampshades.

DISHES AND GLASSWARE:
Clearly label all cartons containing glassware. Place a layer of padding at both the top and bottom of the carton. All glass items should be individually wrapped. Use packing paper to fill empty space.

MIRRORS, WINDOWS AND SCREENS:
These items should be stored on edge (i.e. vertically); they should not be laid flat.

HOLIDAY DECORATIONS:
Wrap ornaments in packing paper or newsprint. Curl strings of lights around a piece of cardboard and place lights in cartons lined with packing paper.

Commercial Storage Tips

BOOKS AND DOCUMENTS:
Do not place boxes directly on the floor; use pallets and skids to protect against moisture.

CUSTOMISED STORAGE SPACE:
Inventory can often be stored more efficiently by using free standing shelving.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Metal tools and equipment should be cleaned and wiped with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil.
